NetBeans Community Docs Spotlight: Prakan Puvibunsuk

Hello everyone,

Its time to give Spotlight to another contributor, who has been contributing screen-casts since March, 2008! I am talking about Prakan Puvibunsuk, he lives in Bangkok, Thailand. His passion for NetBeans is reflected in his contributions, which are as follows -
  1. Login Form using Swing Application Framework
  2. iReport and Swing Application Framework
  3. Embedded Derby and Bean Binding with NetBeans 6
Lets have a look at his answers -

What do you do?
I am a freelance programmer, consultant and instructor.

When did you first start using NetBeans?
It was 2 years ago, my friend asked me to write a software.
At that time my favorite programming was pascal (delphi) and
C++ (C++ Builder) but I decided to use NetBeans because it's free,
cross platform and ease of use.

What do you like best about NetBeans?
Some says NetBeans is slow and inefficient, but I don't think so.
Now NetBeans is getting faster and rich features.
Most of all NetBeans is free, ease of use and there are many
strong communities out there that can support users.

There is a rise in contributions from Asia! What are you waiting for? Just visit Community Docs website and get started...

Thanks for contributing Prakan, we hope to see more quality demo's from you!

Resolve References to compile JNLP projects

Hello,

I am back with the latest in Community Docs, and its good to see another contributor joining us and contributing a Tips & Tricks! Michael Lockhart, in his first ever contribution, and this is how he introduces us to his documentation :-
I recently checked out the new Java SwingSet3 project from its SVN repo, to play around with it. It’s a NetBeans project so it was simple enough to fire up NetBeans 6.0 and use its built-in Subversion support to check the project out from the repository directly…
Here are some screen-shots as well,

Fig. Right-click the project node, select "Resolve Reference Problems..."

Fig. This is the final snapshot of the solution!

Michael Lockhart, thanks for contributing...Hope to see from you!

Simulating the 'soutv' code template for Java Editor

What's "soutv"?
Thinking...

Is it a jargon?
Yes & No

Actually, its one of the Live Code Templates provided for the Java Editor, in NetBeans IDE! Kunal Modi has done a simulation of that template in his
latest contribution. He's been exploring NetBeans API's for a while...coming out every now & then, with something special. Have a look at these screenshots.

NetBeans Community Docs Spotlight - Jay Mahadeokar

Hello all,

Its time to give Spotlight again, this time we head to India after a long time! It was way back in December, that we had given spotlight to an Indian contributor. This time around, we encountered Jay Mahadeokar, who is from Nagpur, Maharashtra in India! He's been doing great contributions, all being tutorials. Have a look;
  1. Using RMS to create Expenses utility for Mobiles
  2. Opening Images within Netbeans using JAI API
  3. Creating simple Image Bean using Bean functionality in NetBeans 6.1
  4. JSF Crud Generator in NetBeans 6.1

Now, time for some rapid fire questions, and his answers are -

What do you do?
I am a student, study Computer Science, in 3rd Year, at Shri Ramdeobaba Kamla Nehru Engineering College, Nagpur, India. I like coding and exploring new technologies.I am an uncompromising Manchester United fan and in free time, I read novels, go out with friends, watch movies...

When did you first start using NetBeans?
I first started using NetBeans about four months ago. Before that I was into Microsoft .Net and Visual Studio (Although I knew very little about these technologies to be frank!). Mr Rohan Ranade, Sun MicroSystems, Banglore, had visited our campus in January and gave a three day seminar on NetBeans and other Sun Technologies. It was he who inspired me to migrate to java and NetBeans, and since then I have started exploring NetBeans and developed a strong liking for it!

What do you like best about NetBeans?
Frankly speaking, I am still a relative newcomer in this area, so me commenting on the plus-es and minus-es of this fantastic IDE, might not be very appropriate. But, still I would try to highlight the main factors that proved to be the catalyst in making me fall in love with NetBeans :-).

1. NetBeans can be considered to be the front runner when it comes to satisfying the notion "The only IDE you need"! And I say that not because it is the tag line of NetBeans. Just look at the range of support NetBeans has offers for software development and you will realize it for yourself.

2. Wide range of robust API are provided for everything that you can think of. Module development support, and platform application development support are my personal favourites!

3. Opportunities for youngsters and students - NetBeans has opened up new spheres for students and youngsters like me and provide plenty of opportunities to contribute through plugins, community docs as well as mailing lists help us to interact with the best in business. What more can a newcomer ask?

Thank you Jay for great contributions! Hope to see more from you!

Rise In Contributions!

I know you all want to know about the latest buzz, and its been three weeks, since we mentioned about the latest contributions!

During that period, there's been rise in contributions, and we are glad to get a mixed bag of docs, i.e. there have been tutorials, screencasts and tips & tricks too! Also, new contributors were added to the community, namely John Muchow,
Daniel Boekhoff and Tushar Joshi. Then, there were some who made a comeback like Kunal Modi, Arulazi Dhesiaseelan, Siegfried Bolz and even I made a contribution!

How about giving it back to the community, which has helped you whenever required. Great documentation support, which has helped you get started with NetBeans IDE, exploring new domains, etc. These people are just like you, helping each other by contributing!

Now, what you think? Feel like contributing, its so easy, get started with the
Quick Start Guide, made for the community, to help new contributors get accustomed to the environment and be able to write the docs in Wiki format comfortably.

Thanks!

NetBeans Community Docs Spotlight - Siegfried Bolz

Hello, Community!

Its time to put Spotlight on yet another contributor, whose exploration, led him to contribute docs to the community! This time we head towards Munich, Germany!

I'm talking about Siegfried Bolz, who has done two contributions;
  1. Create reverse Ajax Web-Applications with DWR, GlassFish and NetBeans 6.1
  2. Creating SOAP Web Services with NetBeans 6.0
We asked him some questions, and here's what he has to say;

What do you do?
I am working as a Java Software Developer for a mortgage financing company and I am the only one there, who is using NetBeans, all other developers are using Eclipse. :-( So i am trying to persuade them all. ;-)

When did you first start using NetBeans?

That was in spring 2007, i had to develop some Web Services with JAX-WS and was searching the Web for some tutorials with Eclipse. Luckily, i found some for NetBeans 5.5 . This was the beginning for me, to use NetBeans. First i missed some features from Eclipse like the cool Quick fixes, but when NetBeans v6.0 was released, this gap was closed.

What do you like best about NetBeans?
Hmmm, there are many things but my favourite feature is the great Web Service support. Unlike other IDE's, NetBeans is the first (and only?) one which supports JAX-WS and RESTful, and not only AXIS. In combination with GlassFish v2, it is very very easy to create reliable, secure Web Services. Many thanks to the NetBeans und GlassFish developer teams!

Thank you Siegfried for contributing!

Hello, NetBeans Community!

Hi,

I am Varun Nischal, and for the past 6 months have been contributing to the NetBeans Community, in one way, or the other. Its been a roller-coaster ride, and I really enjoyed being a part of it!

I have been programming since my schooling and never lost the passion for it, when I entered college. Since then, I have learnt C, C++, C# and Java. To be honest, I really love coding in C++ and Java. I have a passion for it.

Indeed, whatever I ever had interest in, I was able to develop passion for it, and being an open-source enthusiast, I developed passion for NetBeans! This is the reason, why I'm blogging here, because my passion has led me to becoming the next NetBeans Community Docs Contribution Coordinator. Its a great feeling which can't be expressed simply in words!

Apart from that, I love
sketching, blogging and biking as well! Now, you can see me blogging at three blogs;
  1. NetBeans Guru - http://nbguru.wordpress.com/
  2. prOgramming bOnds - http://bondprogrammers.blogspot.com/
  3. This blog itself... :D
Thanks, everyone!

Varun Nischal
